How does the idea of including Breakpoints in your sequence strike you?
Credit to Jeff Bohrer of 8-Ball Consulting for this idea. He would like to be able to select an item from the Tree view and set it as a breakpoint, causing the execution of the sequence to halt when the breakpoint is reached.
The idea sounds great, and in practice can be half-implemented in your coding today, but if we consider introducing this as a properly integrated feature it could be much smoother and neater.
The way I envisage it potentially working would be to allow each element in a sequence, whether a test element or a loop, to maintain a flag declaring it as a breakpoint step. If it is a breakpoint, information will be returned through the "Next.vi" function that will allow you, the developer, to implement a pause in your code and prevent continued execution of the sequence. The Tree view would display elements with their breakpoint flag set with a decal glyph. This part needs some careful implementation, but sounds perfectly doable.
We welcome your feedback on this idea, or any other idea. Feel free to reply here or create a new thread!
